April 24th, 2021 is the date of the world premiere of minn(i)e, a chamber opera in one act, written by the Norwegian-Canadian composer Tze Yeung Ho and librettists Maarja Kangro, Linda Gabrielsen and Chapman Chen.
Besides already being very special for its dedication to Wilhelmina Vautrin, there is one thing that makes minn(i)e stand out from the crowd: its orchestration. Ho has decided to orchestrate the opera with 5 accordions and one electric guitar.
The first rehearsal in October has shown that the composer has succeeded in finding a very sophisticated equilibrium between five accordions and singers, using our instrument’s techniques to their maximum.
I feel free to say that this a remarkable project of big importance for accordion. I am very happy to share the stage with accordionist colleagues Kristina Farstad Bjørdal and Live Berger Brekke from Norway and with Henri Zibo and Mikk Langeproon from Estonia.
